Little Hands Helping Little Paws
Kids and animals are a perfect combination when it comes to teaching empathy and responsibility. Throughout the school year the kindergarten integrated animal welfare and awareness education across subject matters. In partnership with the Pasadena Humane Society, they created posters highlighting pet care, organized a towel drive in collaboration with their sixth grade KPals and made treats and toys during Friday rotations. After visiting the Humane Society the children drew pictures in art class - captioned with adjectives from Spanish class - of some of the animals up for adoption to help them find forever homes. In the late spring the class proudly presented the homemade cat toys, blankets and dog treats to Adrian Griffin, the Educational Manager at the Pasadena Humane Society. Otis, Mrs. Griffin’s dog and therapy pet for the PHS was on hand to wag his tail in gratitude on behalf of all the animals at the shelter.
